Auto 99D

Course Description:  Auto 99D begins in February with the focus on Engine Management Systems including the operation and diagnosis of Throttle Body Injection (TBI), Multi-Port Injection (MPI) and Central Sequential Injection (CSFI) Systems.   Included in Engine Management Systems is testing of Powertrain Control Module (PCM) sensor inputs and outputs using a DSO as well as a scan tool.  A variety of driveability concerns will be diagnosed such as low or no fuel pressure, no injector pulse and fuel injector balance testing.  The following Emissions Systems are also covered: Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR), Fuel Evaporation Systems (EVAP), Electronic and Belt-driven Air Injection Systems (AIR) and Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV).   The use of 4 and 5 gas analyzers are introduced in this class with a focus on the relationships between Carbon Monoxide (CO), Hydrocarbons (HC) and Oxides of Nitrogen (NOx).

Preparation for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) examination in areas A8 and L1.
