About John David Thomsen

John David Thomsen received his Bachelor of Music and Master of Arts degrees from San Jose State University. While studying with Dr. Brettell at San Jose State University, Mr. Thomsen received many awards and accolades including: Most Outstanding Graduate Students (SJSU, 1998), Stanford University Mu Phi Epsilon Scholarship Competition (first place), San Jose Music Study Club Young Artist Competition (first place), Music Study Club Scholarship Competition (first place) and the San Jose State University Mu Phi Epsilon Scholarship Competition (first place) to name a few.

Some of Mr. Thomsen’s more prominent performances include an appearance on the TV show “Grand Piano”, National and World premiere performances at the National and International Computer Music Conferences, solo and chamber music performances for festivals in Rome, Positano and Sorrento Italy as well as being a featured performer for the American Music Week Concert series at San Jose State University. As a lecturer and teacher, Mr. Thomsen has presented lectures, recitals and master classes for such organizations as the Music Teachers’ Association of California, the San Jose Music Study Club and the National Teacher’s College in Tai Chung, Taiwan.

As a member of the Music Teachers’ Association of California (Member Los Altos Branch since 1995), Mr. Thomsen has served as branch president (2000-2002) and vice-president (1998-1999). He has served on the faculty at San Jose City College, Foothill College, Las Positas College, the Silicon Valley Conservatory, the South Valley Youth Conservatory and served as a teaching assistant at San Jose State University. John David Thomsen has been a member of the music faculty at De Anza College since 1998.
