A welcome message has been posted inside the course. Please visit the forums and introduce yourself to the class.

The course is divided into topics. Be sure to read the Notes and Assignments for each topic. The assignments, quizzes, discussions and other activities are listed.

So, now you are ready to get started. Please read Getting Started - INTRODUCTION - link in Topic 0 (that is Catalyst / Moodle for the first block of text on the main course page

Other links in topic 0. Please review these handy references as they will be used during the workshop.

  • Getting Started - INTRODUCTION
  • News forum - one way communication from me, the facilitator, to you, the participant. Usually updates or other important notices to everyone.
  • About this workshop...
  • DeAnza Catalyst Reference
  • Questions and comments - central location for questions and answers - if you have questions, others will be interested, too. Feedback and comments are always appreciated.

Then proceed to Notes and Assignments for topic 1. Encourage student-faculty contact.

1. Student-Faculty Contact

This is the first of the Seven Principles. We will also look at using Catalyst / Moodle features Resources, assignments, quizzes

  • Overview Activities 1 - the To Do list for this module
  • 1. Student-Faculty Contact - notes about the principle and practices
  • Discussions 1 - Overview - discussion participation is an important part of the workshop - just as it would be in an in-person workshop
  • Choice Experience Survey - an example of the use of a Choice activity for information gathering
  • Assignment Assignment Basics - an example of the student view of an assignment
  • Quiz Quiz Basics - auto graded - an example of the student view of a quiz
  • Development Activities 1 - information about specific course development activities for developing Catalyst / Moodle course materials for your "project"
  • Discussions 1 - Development - for discussing course building experiences

All the rest of the modules follow this pattern. You are welcome to work through these at your own pace. I'll check in regularly to answer questions and participate in the discussions.

Beginning in October, we will have "due dates" for those who need specific deadline to get motivated. The discussions are livelier if everyone contributes in a short period of time.

The workshop will run until the end of the Quarter.

On-campus meetings - optional, but I would like to meet with each participant in person before the end of the quarter to discuss individual projects and technology needs.

If you have questions, you can send email to taylorvalerie@deanza.edu or send a message via the Questions? forum.

I look forward to working with you.
