 Failed class hand out

This committee wants to make sure De Anza students find their way to the classes that will best promote their successful completion of their degree, certificate, or transfer program.

Our goals are to increase numbers of students taking placement tests. Find out how many students currently take the placement exam.  Ask IR for numbers of students who enroll in content courses.

Give handout to students who were unable to get into classes that includes alternative courses, adjuncts, on-line information, counseling/student services resources, list of self-paced courses, advice for checking potentially open classes the 2nd week of the quarter. Provide a sample handout in resource guide as well as on the web site.

Provide handouts for students who are at risk of failing courses and for students who have failed courses.

Set up brown bags for non-language arts instructors to find what they want/need from Language Arts. Conduct a campus survey asking instructors what they need from language arts and student services to assess why students are failing courses. Language Arts and Counseling (Student Services) would provide direction.

Provide a sample midterm self-assessment to assist students and faculty in identifying who is at risk of failing.

Provide information of at-risk students in courses for possible earlier intervention

Obtain list of students who are failing – is this possible?

Create handout for students to explain how to be successful at De Anza (Counseling Division may be a strong resource in this area): First week assessment, asking students relevant questions e.g., are you sitting near the front, do you have a number of another student in case you’re absent?

Make our handouts available to the larger De Anza campus via email or website.
