Converting Word documents to Manila pages

In many ways converting documents directly into Manila pages may be the best long-term solution for many users. Unfortunately, this process is not automatic and the initial conversion takes significant manual intervention.

Here is one method for converting a Word document to a Manila page:

  1. Use your web browser to go to your faculty site and log in.
  2. Open your Word document in Microsoft Word. (At this point you will be running both Word and your web browser.)
  3. Switch back to the web browser and your home page.
  4. Go to the Stories page using the link in the Editors Only menu at the top of the page.
  5. Scroll down on the Stories page and click on theCreate a New Story link.
  6. On the Create a New Story page type a title into the Title: box.
  7. Switch back to Microsoft Word so that you can see your Word document.

Select all of the text in the document and Copy it.
  8. Switch back to your Create a New Story page in the web browser. Click in the Text: box and paste your text from the Word document.
  9. Go through the document and add an extra Return at the end of every paragraph. (This ensures that all paragraphs are separated by a blank line. It may be easier to do this in Word before you copy and paste.)
