Manila web sites include a membership feature that lets you build web-based communities. Members of your site can have access to special features including:
- email bulletins from the web site owner.
- full access to web-based discussions.
- access to some restricted areas of a site.
- shared editorial participation in the site.
As site operator you can configure these options as you see fit. For example, you may want to let your members receive bulletins but you may not want to let them make editorial contributions to the site. You can choose to let members sign themselves up at your site or you can restrict membership to those you add manually.
You can also control whether the contributions from your members can be seen by non-members. For example, you might enable the discussion feature for your members and choose to allow non-members to see the discussion messages but not post their own. On the other hand you might decide to restrict access to the discussion feature to members only.
This section of the How-to Guide describes how to enable and configure membership and explains some of the membership options that you may choose to use. The details are in these articles:
Additionally, the Sending Bulletins article explains one useful application of membership.
