Here are the steps for adding a picture to your page, using a graphic file named "myPhoto.gif" stored on your computer.
Note: You must already have the picture you want to use stored on your computer. It could be a photograph or other image in .gif or .pdf file format. (The file name, title, and description used here will be different from that used for your pictures.)
- Use your web browser to go to your web site and login.
- Click on the Pictures link at the top of your page in the Editors Only menu. This will take you to the Pictures page.
- Scroll to the bottom of the Pictures page and click on the Create a New Picture link. This will take you to the Create a New Picture page.
- On the Create a New Picture page type a short descriptive title for your picture in the Title: box. Let's call the myPhoto.gif image My Photograph when we upload it. (You can use any title, but remember that it will become the shortcut that you use to include the picture in your web pages.)
- Click on the Browse... button next to the Choose a GIF or JPG file: box. This will bring up a window that you can use to find the file stored on your computer and select it. In our example we would locate the myPicture.gif file; you will locate a different file that you want to use on your site.
- Type a short description of the picture in the Text: box. This step is optional but recommended, since this text will describe your picture to individuals who cannot see it. For example, we might type, "Photo of Jim Faculty of De Anza College" in this box.
- Click the Post New Picture button to send a copy of your picture to the server; this may take a moment if your image file is large.
- A new web page will be displayed. It includes the title that you gave your picture, the picture itself, the description you included, and instructions on how to include the picture in a web page.
Your new picture is now available for use on any page of your web site. To include the picture simply type its name in quotation marks. Using our example, we could type "My Photograph" on a web page to include the myPhoto.gif image.
