We chat about old times
Sitting on the floor of the hotel bathroom.
She’s asleep in the main room
So we lower our voices,
And mute the memories.
“I don’t see you very much, anymore,”
Insomnia says,
Looking concerned.
“Yeah, but don’t worry –
We broke up last week,
So I’ll be visiting more.”
The reply is too casual, almost forced.
But Insomnia doesn’t press the issue.
No false sympathy, no “I told you so.”
The relief is overwhelming.
