Join the staff
Because Red Wheelbarrow is a school publication, it requires students to fill its staff each quarter in course EWRT 65 (one or two units, pass/fail). The classes are offered every quarter, and students enrolled in them are involved in all aspects of producing a literary journal (with the guidance of the instructor), from approving submissions to putting the actual journal together. Refer to the De Anza Schedule of Classes to see when the classes are offered.
Evaluating other people's work is a great way to learn your own strengths and weaknesses. The class is fun, collaborative, and project-based: we come away with a high-quality, well-designed magazine. For the national edition in particular, we welcome the participation of interested semi-literary types from around the SF Bay Area, including mature working adults and young adults, not to mention retirees. Contact the editors/instructors for more information.
