General Information

I have been a full time member of the De Anza Mathematics Department since December 1984. Prior to that time, I worked in the United States Aerospace Program as a mathematical/statistical analyst for 6 years. Before then, I taught high school for almost 10 years and was an adjunct instructor of Mathematics at De Anza and Foothill colleges.

My academic background is in Mathematics and Statistics. I have done formal work on those two areas at the University of New Mexico, the University of Oklahoma, and the University of California, Berkeley.

Besides my teaching duties, I consult for local industry in matters such as quality control/assurance, data collection and analysis, and applications of statistical methodologies in medicine (clinical studies, assay evaluation, etc.) In addition, I have conducted a number of seminars/workshops/conferences for clinicians and other medically related personnel in the more efficient use of statistics in a clinical/research environment. Other areas of research interest are: financial markets, application of statistics to sports, and application of probability to games of chance in pari-mutuel scenarios.

As a Faculty Consultant for The College Board, I fully participate in matters pertaining to the Advanced Placement exam in Statistics for high school students. Besides reading AP Statistics exam papers every year, I also conduct seminars and workshops for current and future AP Statistics high school teachers.
