Math-10Elementary Statistics
COURSE INFORMATION
Prerequisites: Math 105 (C or
better), or pass the Intermediate Algebra
Placement Test.
Textbook:
Statistics – Understanding Uncertainty, 2nd Ed., by Frank P.
Soler
Related Materials: Computer Diskette: Statistics by Avery/Soler. For IBM and
compatibles (3.5 in. only). Calculator with appropriate
statistical functions. (TI 86 is preferred).
Attendance: Students are expected
to attend all classes on time. Students
who are absent more than 3
times may be dropped from the
class. However, it is the students’ responsibility to drop by the
appropriate deadline.
Petitions to drop after the dead line will
not be considered by the instructor.
Homework: Homework (hw) will be assigned regularly and will be
collected at once a week. No late hws will be accepted. Hw
is
the key to success in this class. Plan to devote a minimum of
TWO hours to hw for each class hour.
Laboratory: Computer lab assignments (two components: PROB and
STATS) will be given and collected once a week. In addition to
the scheduled lab time in S-48, there are designed “Open Lab”
times. Please check the schedules.
Quizzes:
Three Quizzes are
given in class. No makeup quizzes. Quizzes
problems are similar to homework problems, and lecture
examples.
Exams: Three
one-hour midterm examinations. No makeups except for
extenuating circumstances assuming the student notifies the
instructor as soon as the emergency arises.
Final Exam: One two-hour
comprehensive examination. Any student missing
the final will receive an F
grade for the course.
