About me My name is Kejian Shi. In the Chinese way, my first name should be written as Ke Jian. I put them together as one word because I thought this may be easier for non-Chinese people since there are many more non-Chinese than Chinese people here. However, the easiest way is to let people call me K.J. and not to worry about how to pronounce "Kejian" correctly.
I was born in a small town called Xinwen in Sichuan province, south west of China. I had lived there for all my childhood years. I have a lot of good memories about my birthplace. I have an elder sister who is still in the same town and a younger brother who is in another city where my parents live in.
I live in Saratoga, California with my wife and our son. Our son is Seven years old. I have a lot of very funny stories about him. I can talk about those stories for a long time.
Every since I graduated from high school the only thing, in terms of a career, I have really loved and enjoyed of doing is teaching. I went to Sichuan Normal University and majored in mathematics planning to be a high school math teacher after graduating. I earned a Bachelor's degree in mathematics after four years of study. I became a math instructor at Sichuan Agricultural University. After over three years of teaching at SAU I came to the United States to pursue my advanced degrees. I earned my Master's degree in applied mathematics from Michigan State University and my Ph.D. degree in applied mathematics from the University of California, Davis. I had taught math for two years at UC Davis as a lecture before I came to De Anza College in the Summer of 1998.
