Course Requisites:
In order to obtain a Red Cross WSI certificate, students must meet the following criteria:
1. Hold a ARC FIT card (obtained as part of this class)
2. Pass a swimming and skills pre-test
3. Successfully complete all course requirements and practice teaching
4. Pass the Red Cross WSI written examination with 80%.
5. Be at least 17 years old on the day of the exam.
It is possible to pass the De Anza course and still not qualify for the Red Cross WSI certificate.
Attendance:
It is important that you attend all sessions. If you miss a class, it is your responsibility to view the video and get the lecture material on your own time. You must teach all 5 practice teaching lessons in order to pass the course.
Equipment:
Swimsuit, towel. Goggles, swimming cap, and sweatshirt highly recommended. Swim caps are recommended. Please do not use ear plugs or nose clips. Waterproof sunscreen should be used and applied 30 minutes before class.
Locker rooms will not be available for your use. Leave your valuables at home.
