This is a preparatory class emphasizing writing, thinking and reading skills. This class combines EWRT 200 and READ 200 into one ten-unit class. The two instructors will be working and planning together in order to make the class more effective for the students.
You will need your DASB card to print materials in ATC 102 and 103.
Co-Requisite: Students will take LART 201 (1 unit) combined reading and writing laboratory in the Readiness Laboratory (LC138) along with LART 200. The one unit course is designed to complement the 200 curricula and give you the chance to work in a small group with one facilitator.

Ironman by Chris Crutcher
A Gathering of Flowers by Joyce Carol Thomas (both at our bookstore)
A good college level dictionary (Webster's New World or American Heritage recommended)

THE COURSE:
LART 200 is a ten hour course intended to help students learn to read and write confidently and successfully. For students who need work in reading and writing at the EWRT 200 level and the READ 201 level, LART 200 satisfies both the reading and writing requirements. Completion of this class with a pass in both sections, allows students to proceed to the LART 100 level, which combines EWRT 100B and READ 100.
GOALS:

to predict information based on clues in reading

to respond to readings and support your ideas clearly and convincingly

REWRITES must include the original draft and the grade sheet. The changes need to be underlined or highlighted. You can revise any of the essays. We will take rewrites only three weeks after the original assignment.
