EWRT 30 is designed to:

• prepare you for further development of your writing in more advanced courses such as Fiction and Poetry Writing (EWRT 40 and 41)

What we will do in the class :

• Discuss the creative process and the technical and stylistic elements of creative writing.
(how to do it)

• Analyze the ways these elements are used in the assigned readings.
(how it has been done)

• Practice these elements and explore your writing urges, using varied (and possibly entertaining) exercises and composing your own stories, poems, and dramatic scenes.
(do it)

• Help and learn from each other as we create a writing community.

• Enjoy the agony and ecstasy of creating with words!

Technology Problems:

Technical problems with the WebCt system and with students’ own systems occur occasionally.

Many of the stressful consequences of a system or equipment failure can be avoided if you submit your work well before the deadline.

System outage:

Although our server is quite reliable, a problem can make WebCt (the course) unavailable for a brief period. When possible, WebCt will notify us in advance, so we can plan for the downtime. If an unexpected system failure occurs, an announcement will appear on your myWebCT page to confirm the outage.

If a system outage interferes with your handing in work by a deadline, an allowance will be made for the delay.

Browser problems:

Students are responsible for making sure their Browsers and other systems are compatible with the requirements of the course.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Plagiarism and Intellectual Property Rights :

Plagiarism is not tolerated in this class
or in this college .

Plagiarizing--using another person's writing or ideas without acknowledgment (including submitting as one's own the work of a tutor or work taken from another source--will result in an automatic grade of "0" for that assignment and may result in being dropped from the class or suspended from the college.

Read the file on Plagiarism in Class Files.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Student Privacy:

-No work submitted by students or information about students may be used outside this course by the instructor or students.

- All Mail communication between Student and Instructor is confidential and will not be shared with other persons.
