Biographical InfoI was born and raised in New York. I graduated from the State University of New York at Stony Brook in 1987 and attended graduate classes while working in New York City. My first career was as a journalist, writing both hard news stories and features for newspapers on Long Island and Staten Island. I also wrote speeches and handled correspondence for the State of Israel Bonds Corporation in Manhattan. As you can see, my experience in writing is quite varied.
I moved to San Francisco in 1993 to attend San Francisco State University's graduate program in English Composition, earning a Master of Arts degree. I also participated in San Francisco State's creative writing program and was the managing editor for its literary journal, Fourteen Hills. While earning my degree, I joined the staff of the Contra Costa Times Newspapers, Inc., and was a features and education reporter for six years beforing leaving to take a position as a Composition instructor at San Francisco State.
After getting married and deciding to settle in the South Bay, I began to look for a position closer to home and targeted DeAnza College as my number 1 choice. I was very fortunate that a position was available, and joined the Language Arts Division in 2001, teaching both English 1B and 2. I find the the students at DeAnza focused, challenging and eager to learn -- what a great home I have found here!
