Electronic Music

The De Anza Electronic Music program (Music 8 and Music 51) and the Comprehensive Musicianship (Music Theory) program (Music 3 and Music 4) took a giant step forward recentlyl when both programs moved into our newly remodeled and equipped classroom featuring individual student workstations equipped with state-of-the-art music and audio software and hardware.

Performing Groups

Instrumental, Vocal, and Jazz groups are open to all De Anza College students, from beginners to advanced. Instrumental Music

Instrumental

Chamber/Symphony Orchestra

Membership in the orchestra is open to all De Anza students and to members of the community who enroll. All string players are welcome and winds are accepted by audition. The orchestra meets on Thursday evenings at 7:00 p.m. to 9:40 p.m. The group gives public performances at the College and at off-campus locations every term.

Symphonic Wind Ensemble

This "wind ensemble" is open to all De Anza students who play an instrument and read music. Rehearsal, sight-reading, performance, and recording of wind ensemble literature in a variety of styles and time periods. Robert Farrington is the director. Class meets Monday/Wednesday at 12:30 to 2:10 p.m.

De Anza Chorale

Students with some previous singing experience may enroll in De Anza Chorale subject to audition. Meets at 7:00-9:40 PM on Monday and is directed by Stephanie Austin.

Vintage Singers

De Anza students with the ability to read vocal music at sight, a trained voice and choral experience may audition for Vintage Singers. Roger Letson conducts this group, which rehearses at 11:30-12:20 Monday/Wednesday and 11:30-1:50 Friday.

De Anza Women's Chorus

A choir for students interested in singing with a group for enjoyment. Stresses music of various styles. Provides basic technique and experience in choral singing. One public performance will be scheduled each quarter. Billie Bandermann directs this group which rehearses on Tuesday evening at 7:00-9:40.

De Anza Jazz Singers I and II

Study of the art of vocal jazz ensemble singing. Study, rehearsal and performance of standard and contemporary vocal jazz ensemble repertoire. Exposure to microphone technique, vocal improvisation, and ensemble interpretation of jazz styles and phrasing. Developing a working vocabulary of traditional vocal jazz performance techniques and an understanding of the cultural and historical contexts that produced the specific vocal jazz styles. Roger Letson directs these groups; De Anza Jazz Singers I meets at 4:00-6:15 on Tuesday/Wednesday/Friday. De Anza Jazz Singers II meets on Monday/Wednesday at 4:00-6:15 and on Friday at 4:00-7:00. Enrollment by audition.

Vocal Flight

Advanced study of the art of vocal jazz ensemble singing. Study, rehearsal and performance of standard and contemporary vocal jazz ensemble repertoire. Advanced approach to microphone technique, vocal improvisation, and ensemble interpretation of jazz styles and phrasing. Developing a professional working vocabulary of traditional vocal jazz performance techniques and an understanding of the cultural and historical contexts that produced the specific vocal jazz styles. Roger Letson directs this group, which meets at 4:00-6:15 on MondayWednesday and at 4:00-7:00 Friday. Enrollment by audition.

Jazz Ensemble

The Daddios Big Band meets in the evening under the direction of Steve Tyler. All students are welcome to audition for this oustanding jazz ensemble which performs at festivals and concerts in the De Anza community.
