Electronic Music

The De Anza Electronic Music program (Music 8 and Music 51) and the Comprehensive Musicianship (Music Theory) program (Music 3 and Music 4) took a giant step forward recently when both programs moved into our newly remodeled and equipped classroom featuring individual student workstations equipped with state-of-the-art music and audio software and hardware.

Enrollment During a Time of Limited Budgets

California community colleges are coping with tremendous budget problems resulting from a dysfunctional state budget. Dedicated faculty, staff, and administrators want to do everything possible to help you succeed. Consider information and advice that can help you make the best of this situation:

  • The College now offers fewer course sections.
  • Low enrolled classes are more likely to be canceled. If you wait to enroll, the class you want will be more likely to be canceled.
  • Enroll for ALL of your classes as soon as possible. If you wait, it is possible that the class will be full or canceled, and you will be out of luck either way!
  • If your class is full, try to get on a waiting list, contact the instructor, and attend the first class meeting.
  • Enroll for a full (or even over-full) schedule - if one of your classes is canceled you will have a better chance of getting a full load.
  • Be flexible. You may have to consider alternatives to the courses that were your first choice.

Music Classes

The De Anza Music Department offers courses for everyone from beginners to music majors. You can take day, evening, and online sections of courses that fulfill degree and transfer general education requirements. Vocal, instrumental, and jazz performing groups are open to all De Anza students. Take a beginning instrument or voice class, learn to read music, discover Electronic Music, or join a performing group. Find more information on the Music Classes page.

Performing Groups

Do you wish you could play in the band or orchestra or sing in the choir? At De Anza College you can! Vocal, instrumental, and jazz performing groups are open to all De Anza students. Instrumental groups include a wind ensemble and chamber orchestra. There are choral groups for students of all levels and interests. The department has excellent vocal and instrumental jazz groups. Find out more on the Performing Groups page.

Concerts and Events

Music Department performing groups present public concerts each quarter. A free noon hour Thursday recital series brings outstanding performers to the campus several times each term. Student recitals are featured during the final three weeks of each quarter. Consult the Concerts and Events page for current information.

A list of department end-of-term concerts is available here: http://faculty.deanza.edu/mitchell/music1/extracreditevents
