... so I think it is entirely appropriate to post this here. :-)
And this:
America, we have come so far. We have seen so much. But there is so much more to do. So tonight, let us ask ourselves — if our children should live to see the next century; if my daughters should be so lucky to live as long as Ann Nixon Cooper, what change will they see? What progress will we have made?
This is our chance to answer that call. This is our moment.
This is our time, to put our people back to work and open doors of opportunity for our kids; to restore prosperity and promote the cause of peace; to reclaim the American dream and reaffirm that fundamental truth, that, out of many, we are one; that while we breathe, we hope. And where we are met with cynicism and doubts and those who tell us that we can't, we will respond with that timeless creed that sums up the spirit of a people: Yes, we can.

A Change to Test 2 Schedule. The "course calendar" has listed the date for test #2 as a week from this Wednesday - on Wednesday, May 30. Given that there is a holiday on the Monday of week 8, I have decided to delay the schedule for this test by one day, and...
TEST #2 IS NOW SCHEDULED FOR THURSDAY, MAY 30.
At this point I do not plan to change any other days that week. Be aware that this means that we will move on to newer topics in your study and homework assignments and on the quiz that week. The test itself still focuses on the music of the Baroque and Classical eras.
Extra Credit Event Update. Since I updated the Extra Credit concert listing last week I have become aware of two more concerts. The list has been updated to include these newer events, and there are now perhaps a half dozen eligible events remaining this quarter.
If anyone did not turn in a concert report today... it is nearly always better to turn something in late than to not turn in a concert report at all. See me before leaving today if you have questions.
For anyone who did not make it to class today, as long as you email me the text or a scan/photo of your report by the start of your class your paper is regarded as being on time. You must get the printed copy and support documents to me as soon as possible.
If you brought your report to turn in today but forget support documents, turn the report in and bring the support documents tomorrow. If you do this there is no penalty. You must staple all late support documents to a full size 8.5 x 11 piece of paper with your name on it.
I hope no one will be too disappointed if I delay the quiz until Tuesday... ;-)
The two quizzes have been graded, and grades are posted in the online grades update. You may optionally resubmit one of the two quizzes for a higher grade on THURSDAY, MAY 16 at the start of the period. If you do this, the following applies:
Write "RESUBMIT" across the top of the quiz that you choose to turn in.
You must print out a fresh copy of the quiz and answer on the new form.
Your final grade for the resubmitted grade will be the average of the first submission and the resubmitted quiz. (If you score lower on the resubmitted quiz you will retain your score from the first time you turned in the quiz.)
No late resubmitted quizzes will be accepted.
Test #1 is scheduled for our next class meeting this week on Thursday, May 16. This test is based on the questions on quizzes #1 and #2. The test is a closed-notes test and classroom computers will be off during the test.
Upcoming Office Hour Change. I will likely alter my office hours a bit beginning next week (week II) of the spring term. Currently all of my office hours are at 8:30 a.m., but I would like to also be available at 11:30 a.m. on some days for students who cannot come to campus to meet at the earlier time.
Watch here for an update.
As of today it appears that both sections are full and there are students on waiting lists. I can often add a few students at the first meeting, even when the class seems to be full. If you are on the wait list you will have first priority for any available spaces in the classes, but you must be present at the first meeting. If you are not on the wait list and want to add, be sure to attend that first class since this increases the chances that I'll be able to add you.
