| Vote on Tuesday! |
| |
Tomorrow is arguably one of the most important elections in a generation. No matter how you plan to vote on the candidates and the issues...
... VOTE!
It is likely that news organizations will be predicting the outcome of the national election long before the California polls close. But even if it seems like the presidential election has already been decided, there are many critically important issues on our ballots. The presidency is, indeed, important - but it isn't the only important thing you are voting on.
And your vote for president is still very important, too. No matter what candidate wins, the margin of the win is significant, especially in an election when so many fundamental issues are at stake.

A Few Week VI Announcements (5/13/13). - If anyone did not turn in a concert report today... it is nearly always better to turn something in late than to not turn in a concert report at all. See me before leaving today if you have questions.
- For anyone who did not make it to class today, as long as you email me the text or a scan/photo of your report by the start of your class your paper is regarded as being on time. You must get the printed copy and support documents to me as soon as possible.
- If you brought your report to turn in today but forget support documents, turn the report in and bring the support documents tomorrow. If you do this there is no penalty. You must staple all late support documents to a full size 8.5 x 11 piece of paper with your name on it.
- I hope no one will be too disappointed if I delay the quiz until Tuesday... ;-)

Event Updates. I have added a De Anza College Music Department performance to the Extra Credit event list. This is a guitar recital that takes place on campus this Thursday afternoon. Note that this event is NOT ELIGIBLE for a concert report but IS ELIGIBLE for Extra Credit.
I also updated the Concert List (which includes all events eligible for the Concert Report assignment) to include a couple of weeknight events at San Jose State University tonight and on Thursday night.

Homework, Test, and Quiz Notes. I had hoped to be able to return assignment #2 to you today, but I'll be about 10 papers short of finishing the grading. I will return them on Wednesday.
Do not forget that assignment #3 is due tomorrow, Wednesday, May 8.
Also, as I have reminded the class several times, this week's quiz was moved from Monday to Wednesday.
I try to grade tests in a matter of a few days, though it can take up to one week. |

Music 8: Intermediate Electronic Music Test/Quizzes. Two important announcements related to Music 8 quizzes and the first test:
- The two quizzes have been graded, and grades are posted in the online grades update. You may optionally resubmit one of the two quizzes for a higher grade on THURSDAY, MAY 16 at the start of the period. If you do this, the following applies:
- Write "RESUBMIT" across the top of the quiz that you choose to turn in.
- You must print out a fresh copy of the quiz and answer on the new form.
- Your final grade for the resubmitted grade will be the average of the first submission and the resubmitted quiz. (If you score lower on the resubmitted quiz you will retain your score from the first time you turned in the quiz.)
- No late resubmitted quizzes will be accepted.
- Test #1 is scheduled for our next class meeting this week on Thursday, May 16. This test is based on the questions on quizzes #1 and #2. The test is a closed-notes test and classroom computers will be off during the test.

Upcoming Office Hour Change. I will likely alter my office hours a bit beginning next week (week II) of the spring term. Currently all of my office hours are at 8:30 a.m., but I would like to also be available at 11:30 a.m. on some days for students who cannot come to campus to meet at the earlier time.
Watch here for an update. |

Spring 2013 Term - Electronic Music. I teach the following electronic music classes during the spring 2013 term:
- Music 51: Introduction to Electronic Music
- Monday/Wednesday at 12:30-2:20 in room A91.
- Music 8: Intermediate Electronic Music
- Tuesday/Thursday at 12:30-2:20 in room A91.
As of today it appears that both sections are full and there are students on waiting lists. I can often add a few students at the first meeting, even when the class seems to be full. If you are on the wait list you will have first priority for any available spaces in the classes, but you must be present at the first meeting. If you are not on the wait list and want to add, be sure to attend that first class since this increases the chances that I'll be able to add you.
Contact me at mitchelldan@deanza.edu if you have questions. |
