	News for Friday, March 19. I will not be on campus today. Because I am the co-chair of one of the accreditation teams at De Anza, the college has sent me to an accreditation workshop in Southern California. A substitute will be there during class so that you may use the full class period to finish up work on your final projects - the same activity we had planned if I had been there today. Mr. Farrington, who will be there for the class, is not an expert on electronic music. You may ask him questions but this subject is out of his area of expertise. (His specialties include woodwinds, wind ensemble, jazz, and more.) He will have a key to open the workstations. He also has all of the old quizzes and test #1 - you may check with him to retrieve your copies of these materials. If you need help, try the following: Check your notes. Ask other students around you, since many of them may know the answer to your question. Send me an email at mitchelldan@deanza.edu - I will try to check email once or twice during the class period. Please also review the schedule for next week as described in the green sheet calendar. Note that we do meet one more time next week for our final exam session, at which you will play back your final projects and take test #2. (Test #2 is based on quizzes #3 and #4.) About Final Exams If you are unfamiliar with the final exam schedule at De Anza College, there are a few very important things that you should keep in mind: With the exception of a few classes (e.g. - some night classes), Monday, March 22 is a regular class day - not a final exam day. The final exam schedule starts on Tuesday, March 23. The schedule for the final exam in your class is not the same as the regular schedule. For example, your MW class might have a Tuesday exam, and it might not be at the time at which the class normally meets! The official exam schedule is posted at the college web site. Information about the current week 11 schedule Open lab times is available during any of the other electronic music classes as space is available. For the remainder of the week this includes: Thursday 12:30-2:15 Friday 10:30-2:15 There is a regular open lab session following Thursday's class at: 2:15-3:30 Class time in Intro classes will be primarily devoted to work on final projects Class time in Intermediate class will be devoted to final projects and class presentations. Week 12 (Final Exam Week) Schedule Monday is a regular class day - not a day of final exams! For this reason the MW Intro to Electronic Music class will meet at the regular time on Monday, March 22. The day's activities will include work time on final projects and written test #2. (This test will be distributed during the last hour of class.) The De Anza College final exam schedule starts Tuesday, March 23. Here is the schedule for electronic music final exam sessions. Please note that the following is posted for your convenience only - and you must verify the official time and day for your exam session at the green sheet calendar for your class. CLASS EXAM SESSION DAY EXAM SESSION TIME MW Intro to Electronic Music Thursday, March 25 11:30-1:30 Friday Intro to Electronic Music* Tuesday, March 23 9:15-11:15 TTh Intermediate Electronic Music Tuesday, March 23 11:30-1:30 Spring Term Electronic Music Classes. Don't wait to register for your classes this term. Due to serious budget reductions the college has significantly reduced the number of class sections available for the spring term. Some students have already found that sections that they needed are full. In addition, because low-enrolled sections are being canceled more quickly, if you don't register early you may not only find that the classes you want are not available, but you may also find that alternative are also unavailable! Register early and don't wait to get into classes you want/need to take. Music 51: Introduction to Electronic Music - This course introduces students to the use of electronic music software and hardware used to create/compose music. It is open to all students, though some musical background is certainly helpful. I teach two sections: 10:30-2:15 on MW in room A91.  10:30-2:15 on Friday-only in room A91.  Music 8: Intermediate Electronic Music - This course is next in the series following Music 51: Introduction to Electronic Music and is intended for students who have completed that course or who may have equivalent experience.
