Weekly Discussion Topics
Each week a topic for online discussion will be posted at this web site. Discussion assignments may include online reading. Deadlines for posting are listed in the class calendar and announced in class.
Posting response messages
Site membership is required in order to post discussion messages. During the first week of the term Music 1 students should join this site by clicking on the
Join Now link near the bottom of the right sidebar.
To post your response to the weekly discussion topic:
- Click on the Weekly Topic List link in the Discussion section of the sidebar.
- Find the current week's discussion topic in the list on the Weekly Summaries page and click on it.
- Read the current topic carefully. Read any linked material.
- Scroll to the bottom of the page containing the assignment and type your response in the Text: box.
- Review your response message. Click the Submit Response button.

A Note About Discussion Topic Grades
I may grade the discussion topic posts in either of two ways.
Method 1: I may read each of them carefully and award a grade based upon: the relevance of your response, evidence that you have engaged the topic sufficiently, evident care in writing the post, etc.
Method 2: I may on occasion simply award credit for completing the assignment without reference to the quality of the post, at least beyond a minimum level.
I will not announce which method I will apply on a given discussion topic, and I reserve the option of grading some posts according to method 1 and others according to method 2, even on a single assignment.
Late posting
No credit is given for messages posted after the assignment deadline. Since the Internet is not always 100% reliable you should not wait until the last minute to post or technical problems may make your assignment late - and you will not get credit. To be safe post 24-48 hours before the deadline.
