Take a Music Class Next Quarter
I often find that Music 1 students want to take more music classes - and it is no surprise that I think this is a Good Thing! I've listed some options below, but speak to me if you have questions or want advice about what classes to take. All of the following classes are open to all students:
  • Electronic Music - I teach Music 51: Introduction to Electronic Music and Music 8: Intermediate Electronic Music. The classes teach you how to use music hardware and software to create your own music. (I teach the electronic music classes. Next quarter the Intro class is on MW at 12:30-2:10 or on Friday at 10:30-2:10.)
  • Beginning instrument/voice classes - We offer entry-level classes for all students in areas such as voice (various styles), guitar, percussion, keyboards, winds, brasses, non-Western, and much more.
  • Performing groups - Our performing groups are open to all students and include orchestra, band, jazz combos and band, vocal jazz, several choirs, African drumming, and more.
  • Music "theory" and related courses - The entry-level class is Music 10A: Music Fundamentals. We offer a full two-year lower division music major "comprehensive musicianship" program that includes music theory.
  • Other classes in the Music 1 series focus on Jazz, Rock, and non-Western music.
  • Others... check the catalog/schedule or talk to me.
