No More Space Available in Music 1A
I am not adding any more students to either of my Music 1A: Introduction to Music classes after today's class meetings. If you are looking for a section of this course that may still be accepting students this late in the term, I recommend that you check out the section offered through the distance learning program.

Weekly Quiz Procedures
Since the first weekly quiz of the term is scheduled for today I am posting the following information about the quizzes.
  • Quizzes are always based the the "study" assignment from the calendar for the previous week. (E.g. - the quiz on the first day of week two is based on the study assignment listed in week one in the calendar.)
  • The quiz always starts immediately at the beginning of the period and you have five minutes to complete it.
  • If you are late you may not make up the quiz and you may not have extra time.
  • The quiz is short, typically including only five true/false, matching, or multiple choice questions.
  • You must use the long, thin Scantron 2052 form and a #2 pencil - as described in the green sheet and discussed in class last week.
  • The quiz will be projected on the screen at the front of the room.
  • If you cannot see the screen well from your seat, please move to the front row for the quiz. You may move back to your regular seat after I collect the quizzes.
  • If you have moved to the front row and cannot see the projected quiz clearly, I will distribute some paper copies of the quiz to those in the front row who want them.

Week Two News and Information
As we start the second week of the spring 2009 term, I thought it might be a good idea to remind everyone of a few important items:
  • The first quiz is today - it is based on the "study" assignment for week 1 as listed in the class calendar.
  • Now is the time to start working on the week 2 study assignment - also listed in the calendar - for the material that will be on next week's quiz.
  • The first discussion topic assignment is due before the start of your class today - e.g. no later than 9:30 for students in the first class and no later than 10:30 for students in the second class.
  • Most of you seem to have managed to complete the posting of the discussion topic assignment. A few issues came up that we'll talk about either individually or as a group, including...
  • A few people waited until the weekend to try to join the web site and post their discussion responses. In some cases this worked fine, but a few of you ran into problems at the last minute. (Some after midnight this morning!) In these cases the "48 hour rule" applies - e.g. if you contact me about a technical issue less than 48 hours before an assignment requiring online work is due I will try to help you, but if this is not possible you will not get an extension on the assignment
  • For anyone who did not complete the first discussion assignment for any reason... you have used your "free assignment" in this category. Missing this first assignment will not affect your grade, but if you miss any additional discussion assignments there will be an effect on your course grade.
