Spring 2008 Week 7 Topic is Posted
I have posted the next online discussion topic: Week 7 Topic - Spring 2008. It is due before the start of the first class next week - which will be Tuesday due to the Monday holiday. [ Discuss (1 response)]

As Predicted - Limited Concert Opportunities!
Earlier this week in class I mentioned that the number of available concerts will likely decrease during the next few weekends leading up to the deadline for the Concert Report assignment. While I will post additional event to the list for this weekend, an early look confirms that your options will be more limited. Waiting too long to attend your concert will almost certainly create problems for you!

Bottom line: I strongly urge you to go to your concert at the earliest possible opportunity!

(Do check the concert list again later this week. I will be able to add at least a few more events.) [ Discuss]

About Grades, Drop Dates, and Other Related Issues
As I announced in class, it takes me about two weeks to complete the grading of your concert reviews. This is coming along on schedule and I will complete this task and post the grades over the upcoming weekend.

Since I know that it is important for you to see your grades (and my comments) on the concert reviews before you complete your Concert Report assignments, I make it my top grading priority to work on this task. The necessary downside to this is that I fall behind on grading other work. Although I am up-to-date on posting quiz grades, I am one assignment behind on homework, and a couple behind on the online topics. This will also change soon as I finish the concert reviews - I should have all grades posted by the first class meeting after the Memorial Day weekend.

Finally, there are always a few students in Music 1 who worry about their prospects for success as we approach the last opportunity to drop the class with a "W" grade. Please speak to me - or at least email me - before you drop the class. In my experience, something like 90% of students who think they have a "grade problem" in a class incorrectly assume that they cannot pass and drop unnecessarily. If you speak to me about this I will give you as much information as possible about where you stand and where you can end up - and what you need to do to get there. You have nothing to lose by touching base with me on this before you drop - and everything to gain if it turns out that there is a way for you to succeed in the class. [ Discuss]
