Week 2 Summary - Spring 2007

Monday, April 16

Briefly introduced Garage Band effects and method for disabling mic input to audio tracks. Much of period for working on assignment 1.

Tuesday, April 17

Began with work time on the ReDrum project (more time for this on Thursday). Began to work with Subtractor: added subtractor to the rack, loaded preset sounds, went over the Oscillator/Noise, basic filters, controlling filter with the envelope generator.

Wednesday, April 18

Introduced Logic Pro. Covered basics of the Arrange and Transport windows. Learned how to record in a track using the plug-in synths, how to select synths, how to select voices on the synths. Saw the graphic editing view but did not learn anything specific about it.

Thursday, April 29

Learned how to do FM with the LFOs and with the two oscillators. Did not yet explain what is actually going on to produce the particular timbres resulting from FM - that should be next week.

Friday, April 20

Essentially covered the same topics as MW class, except we did take a bit of a look at editing in the Matrix view - saw how to edit pitch, rhythmic placement, and duration, and how to select and edit multiple notes. A few students played the Garage Band project but those who did not must play theirs about 15 minutes into the next class session.
