Bringing a Laptop for Your Intermediate Class Presentation
A few considerations for those of you thinking about bringing your laptops for your Intermediate Electronic Music class presentations:
- If you are thinking of bringing a laptop to show Powerpoint slides, a word document, a web page, etc... don't. We can do all of those things on the class computer. Simply bring in your files on a memory stick or CD, or else put them on the web somewhere so we can download them.
- If you are demonstrating software that is not installed on the class computer - for example, a Windows audio application - then you will need to use your computer. We have an audio output using a 1/8" stereo connection - like the plug on your iPod. For video your computer must be able to connect to a VGA connection in order to project your presentation on the classroom screen. If you do not know what this is you should take a look at the cable on the "instructors desk" right away.
- Make sure that YOU know how to switch your computer to a different monitor or how to mirror displays - since that is what you need to do in order to connect to our projector.
If several of you are presenting on laptops on the same day it can be a great idea to bring one laptop to share and to try your presentation out on that computer ahead of time.
