ICS 7 /Spch 7 (Intercultural Communication)

--7 units of study.

COURSE SKILL OBJECTIVES
Upon completion of this course, you will be able to:
a) Separate fact from interpretation and evaluation when describing others’ behaviors
b) Define and give examples of the major values / world views which guide human behavior around the globe
c) Explain the impact on IC of ethnocentrism, prejudice and discrimination, privilege, colonial history and historical oppression.
d) Demonstrate a working knowledge of key concepts and terms used to analyze intercultural communication
e) Demonstrate decisive, reflective and receptive communication styles so as to be appropriate and effective in different cultural contexts
f) Modify spoken English when communicating with English language learners
g) Leverage bicultural skills and/or state the advantages of culture code switching
h) Coach others in alternative communication behaviors to facilitate effective intercultural interaction
