One section of ICS/Spch 7 is a Distance Learning class with an on-campus FTF (face-to-face) component. It is 30% on-campus, 70% online.

We meet on campus every other week, Thursdays, 6:30 - 9:20pm, for 18 hours total instead of 48 (Summer quarter we meet once (instead of twice) every week for 6 weeks, 6:00 - 8:50).

Online: Students participate in online discussions, read course materials and take exams on a password-protected Catalyst website (navigation is quite user-friendly). See below for more on course design.

There is no online orientation. Attendance at the 6 class meetings is required, though classes can be missed, if absolutely necessary, with no loss in participation points, as long as missed activities are made up.

TRYING TO ADD? Contact the instructor for an add code.

Materials:
Course Packet (CP) for McNulty, ICS/Spch 7, Intercultural Communication,
The CP will cost around $10.00 (De Anza Bookstore - by first week of classes - needed for Week 3.
NO TEXT BOOK is needed for this course.
All readings will be online.

DL COURSE DESIGN: For the online portion of the course, students will log onto the Catalyst course website using a computer at home, work or school.
Navigation will be briefly demonstrated at the first meeting (I can also assist students 1:1 by phone as needed).
Catalyst navigation is easy to learn.
High speed Internet access is recommended, though not essential.
For the on-campus portion (the 6 evening meetings) students will practice intercultural communication skills and give presentations demonstrating preferred communication behaviors in various cultures).

Regular attendance at the 6 on-campus meetings and regular online participation are required.
This course is highly interactive. Much of your learning will come from your interaction with other students.

Discuss course topics (each online asynchronic discussion runs for 7 days (5 days in Summer) and is open 24 hours /day)
Take review quizzes (ungraded) and two tests (tests run for 4 days and are open 24 hours / day.)
