Here's a little something about myself:
Rowena Magdalena De Joya-Tomaneng was born in Quezon City, Philippines. My family immigrated to the United States in the early 70s, escaping the political oppression of the Marcos Regime. I've lived in California for the majority of my life, first in Los Angeles county, then Santa Barbara, then Huntington Beach, and now in San Franciso. In my free time, I like hanging out with my nieces and nephews, hiking in Marin, and watching movies.
In my childhood, my parents noticed early on my love of books, stories, and ideas. I loved escaping into different worlds and different lives, and I would wonder about how ideas have impacted the world. So, it is no wonder that I became a teacher of English and Literature. In my classes, I encourage everyone to share their own stories and explore the ideas that can impact our communities for the better of all...
