Identify Your Delivery ModeInstructors can utilize technology in their instruction in various ways.
TRADITIONAL courses
may not include technology. In those that do students are not necessarily aware of its presence...although instructors use word processing, spreadsheet, or presenation software programs to prepare handouts and keep grades.
BASIC TECHNOLOGY ENHANCED courses
are traditional courses which make use of email, Internet, and/or other technology but do not reduce face-to-face meetings. Although students would benefit from Internet use, their success is not predicated on computer access. Since computer use is not necessary for the course, student access to computers does not need to be addressed in course descriptions or the schedule.
BLENDED courses
offer up to 50% of its instruction online; most of the instruction is traditional. If you think you might like to offer this type of course, students should be forewarned about the need for computer access in the schedule of classes. More information is available in Blended Courses.
HYBRID courses
at DeAnza present more than 51% of the instruction online; the rest of the meetings are face-to-face. Hybrid courses are Distance Learning classes; see Distance Learning's start-up procedures for offering these courses:

ONLINE courses are taught completely online, although testing may be done on campus. These are Distance Learning courses and are subject to the same guidelines as Hybrid courses.
NOTE: If you are interested in teaching blended or hybrid classes, the Santa Rosa Center for Advanced Technology in Education has developed an excellent resource site with links to guidelines for getting started and running such courses. Their software is different, but the ideas may be helpful.
