Math 51 TrigonometryTrigonometry is the study of angles of a triangle; we focus primarily on right triangles, but eventually (Ch. 7) generalize to all triangles. You should have good command of the basic properties of geometric shapes, especially of the right triangle. If needed, have a basic geometry book available as a resource.
When we work with trig identities (Ch. 5) your algebra skills will be well challenged. Though we will be working (in that chapter) with trigonometric terms, the process is as much algebra substitution and manipulation as it is trigonometric terms. A further comment on this chapter: it may seem that the material may be rather unrelated to what has preceded it, but the identities become a significant part of Math 1B - Integral Calculus.
Please make certain you have read the General Information.
We proceed at about a section a day. However, the very first three sections of Chapter One are considered review. You should try to complete all three sections by the second day of class.
You should anticipate spending 2-3 hours per day every day doing the homework problems, even on weekends.
