Math 49A

This is the first of a two–course sequence focusing on a variety of pre–calculus algebra topics. You should already have very good basic algebra and geometry skills. The topics in this course cover linear, polynomial, rational, exponential, and logarithmic functions, their graphs, and solving related equations; and topics in analytic geometry–the algebra of geometic shapes (specifically the circle, parabola, ellipse, and hyperbola), known as the conic sections.

These topics show up at various times in the calculus sequence, yet when you reach those points in the calculus course, you will be expected to be proficient in that pre-calculus skill.

If you have not yet read the General Information, do so now.

You should anticipate spending 2-3 hours per day every day doing the homework problems, even on weekends.
