If you want to know your grade right away, and or you want comments on the papers, you can send me an email message on Tuesday March 24 asking for those things: kaufmancynthia@fhda.edu.
Write a two-page paper that gives an answer to one of the following questions. All papers should contain a summary of the main idea that you address and a thesis of your own with support for your own thesis.
- Discuss Marx's views of human nature. How does Marx think people should relate to nature and to one another? Present a good synthesis of Marx's view and evaluate it.
- Compare Marx and Locke on one of the following issues: human nature, government, the relationship between reason and desire, private property, or freedom. Argue for the adequacy of one view over the other.
- Discuss Marx's ideas about communism with respect to Yoruban philosophy. Argue for or against the claim that the Yoruba are able to express their species being.
- Criticize an existing government or a government that has existed using a concept from Marx.
- Explain Marx's theory of alienation. Support or criticize the theory and discuss its relevance for understanding real human lives.
- Discuss Marx's views of utopia. Compare them with Plato's. Argue for some position you explain in the discussion.
- Compare some aspect of Marx with some aspect of Taoism.
- Apply Brenner’s analysis of how women’s choices are constrained in our present society to a critique of Locke or use Locke against Brenner’s idea.
- Explain the similarities or differences between Marx and Brenner on women's role is a capitalist society.
- Evaluate Anzaldúa's concept of the value of ambiguity and use it to criticize Plato, or evaluate a comparison between her idea and the ideas of Lao Tzu, or criticize her idea and defend Plato against a critique she might raise to his ideas.
- Analyze any author we read using the feminist concepts we discussed, or read about.
- Choose a topic of your own related to Marx or the issues we read about on Feminism. I do not want you to write a general paper about Feminism!
