Why should you study French? Here are some convincing reasons.

EXCELLENT site for practicing your French! The University of Texas has produced a wonderful series of very useful video and audio clips, downloadable podcasts, and grammar explanations, on their web site called Français Intéractif. Beginning students ask me all the time where they can find French vocabulary and phrases pronounced for them on-line. This is the place: http://www.laits.utexas.edu/fi/html/toc/00.html

Tennessee Bob's Famous French Links: BOOKMARK THIS SITE! At the University of Tennessee at Martin, French professor Bob Peckham, PhD, has created an amazing web page that lists 10,000 links to sites related to the French language and to francophone culture, history, media and much more, all neatly organized by category. Allez-y! Check it out!

Radio broadcasts of French news, spoken in "français facile". Students who have completed a year of more of college-level French should be able to understand these broadcasts pretty well. In some cases you can click on "lire le script" and read what is being said.

TV5: This channel shows French language programming 24/7: movies, news, documentaries, talk shows, and more. Some programming is subtitled in English, but most of it is not. (Great for intermediate and advanced students who want to work on their listening comprehension!) It is not available in all areas, so contact your cable company to see if you can get it. In most areas you will need either digital cable or a satellite dish. Comcast in San José charges me $10.99 per month to add TV5 to my basic cable subscription. Not too bad of an investment if you plan to watch it a lot. If you can read French, you might enjoy visiting the TV5 web site:
