Awards for Excellence

awardswall200:

La Voz, the De Anza College student newspaper, not only creates award-winning journalists but also produces an award-wining publication. Each year since 2002, La Voz has earned a General Excellence Award for either its print or online edition from the Journalism Association of Community Colleges.

JACC, an association of approximately 55 California community college journalism programs, offers conferences and educational opportunities to journalism students. De Anza College students participate in competitions and workshops at two journalism conferences a year to hone their professional skills in news and editorial writing, photojournalism, page design, cartooning and copy editing.

Since 1998, when the De Anza Journalism Program was reestablished, the La Voz news team has won hundreds of honors recognizing their individual achievements and their combined efforts in publishing a newspaper meeting the standard of General Excellence. At the two JACC conferences during the 2005-06 academic year alone, La Voz journalists brought home 44 awards.

Opening Doors for Students

The journalism awards De Anza College students receive attest to their professional skills and open doors to scholarships, internships and jobs in communications media. Former De Anza College journalism students work all over the world for media outlets such as Bloomberg News, Florida Today and the Desert Sun.
