For the La Voz staffers, the name John Lovas still permeates the air and elicits respect, long after he has stepped down as advisor. His example and guidance were consulted whenenver big changes or sticky situations were faced. "What would John Lovas say about this? What did John Lovas write in the handbook?" It took me a while, however, to match the name with the face I crossed reguarly in the main quad. In fact, in the beginning, I found a striking resemblence bewteen John Lovas and John Swensson and had difficulty distinguishing between the two.
Apart from La Voz, I was again pointed to Mr. Lovas for guidance and wisdom in efforts to re-offer Latin at De Anza. Finding an opportunity to speak with him was difficult, as his attention was constantly occupied by the paper after paper he bent over intently as students came reguarly and asked for help. I remember the way his love for journalism seeped into the decorations on his offiice door as I read the "Letters to the Editor" taped there.
Now as Mr. Lovas has given his last bit of advice, his example will stay in the lives of students, who, like me, will still continue to ask, "What would John Lovas say about this?"
