| I was a new part-time instructor not long out of grad school when John called me up and asked if I would like to teach a Shakespeare course in the evening. I thought life could not get any better. Years later, after I was hired full-time, John asked me to work with him on a FHDA booklet when the District hosted the League of Innovation Conference. The Mac computer was just released, and I watched John do all the work while he gave me half the credit. Shortly after that, John asked me to join him to a 49er playoff game (the Vikings?)––the only professional football game I ever witnessed. In our last conversation about a year ago, John told me how excited he was after getting his new class schedule. The man STILL got excited over a good schedule when I had, by this time, long since gotten over the excitement of teaching Shakespeare or anything else. John, you were a great colleague and a great teacher.
