John, thanks to the mysteries of cyberspace I'm able to communicate semi-directly with you even though
I'm thousands of miles away. This is no substitute for your well known fondness for face-to-face
discourse, but, alas, m'lad tis the best this old Irishman can pull off. I've always enjoyed your top-hatted
celebration of St. Pat's Day, and I've always enjoyed simply seeing you on campus. It's such a joy to
see someone I still know at De Anza...and, indeed, someone who still knows me. I was trying to think
through the number of curriculum committees, accreditation self-studies, honor student gatherings, and the
like that I've worked on with you. Impossible to count. I do remember that it was a thoughtful
observation of your's that allowed one self-study to proceed when those involved were less than tastefully
disenchanted with one another's views. Many experiences, many good fights, many joys. They live on in
our memories.
Like everyone else I am following your battle with cancer. Do know that a lot of us are there with you
and that each of us would like nothing better than to make this thing simply go away. Take good
comfort in the presence of others, including those us at great distances, and carry on with the great fight.
Best to m'boy.
Mick Sullivan
