Feb. 21:
This handout gives clear explanations and examples of
Appositives, a good supplement to what's in our reader.

give you new ideas for your own paper on consumerism.
Ads from 1911-1955. This Duke University archive of historical
advertisements includes hundreds of ads from the past, illustrating
vividly how the values and historical conditions of different decades
influence aproaches to advertising.
Feb. 13:
Paragraph Development offers a good review of many of the elements of effective paragraphs.
And
Transitions provides tips for how to move from one paragraph to
another smoothly. As we've discussed in class, you'll want to be careful
not
to rely too heavily on transition words, but rather you'll want to show
the connections between you ideas in a variety of different ways, using
coordinators and subordinators and other sentence combining strategies.
Feb. 6:
Many of you are concerned about ways to make your thesis statements
stronger. We will continue to work on this in class. But while your
