Rewrite Proposal Instructions - EWRT1B

DeAnza College
Rewrite proposal format
Instructor: Hearn

Clearly label each section and type your response.

Name: (Type your name.)

Unit Name: (Type the name of the unit for which the essay was written.)

Areas to Improve: (Looking at the grading matrix that accompanied your paper, what are the main sections that you need to improve?)

Thesis Statement/Revised Thesis Statement: (Type your thesis statement. If it is not specific enough, provide a revised thesis statement that you might use for your rewrite.)

Topic Sentences/Revised Topic Sentences: (Number each paragraph and type the topic sentence that corresponds to each paragraph. Note: you do not have to include one for your introduction or your conclusion. Therefore, start your numbering with #2. If any of these topic sentences focus on literary devices rather than content, provide a revised topic sentence.)

Response to End Comments: (Read my typed end comments to you. Except for grammar, list the different corrections you need to make and provide examples of the problems from your essay. Include 3-4 examples total. They can all relate to the same problem.)

Grammar: (What are the main grammar errors that you made? Provide 3-4 examples of mistakes from your paper and provide corrections to the mistakes.)

Due Date: (Type the due date of the rewrite. It will be announced in class.)

Requirements to rewrite:

  • Proposal must be submitted and approved
  • You must highlight all changes on the rewritten draft. If you omitted anything, write “omitted” and highlight the word on the new copy. I will only read the highlighted areas. If you don’t highlight something, I will assume it wasn’t changed from the original.
  • At least 25% of your paper must be highlighted. Otherwise, it is not a true rewrite and will not be credited as such.
  • Submit your originally graded paper, the grading matrix, my typed end comments, your rewritten paper, and your proposal when you turn in the rewrite.
  • You will receive an average of the two grades.
