Info

In a previous life, I was an independent filmmaker traveling around the world making surfing films. Check out www.imaginesurfing.com for info on the film that put me $80,000 in debt.

"Facing West from California's Shores"

Facing west from California's shores,
Inquiring, tireless, seeking what is yet unfound,
I, a child, very old, over waves, towards the house of maternity,
the land of migrations, look afar,
Look off the shores of my Western sea, the circle almost circled;
For starting westward from Hindustan, from the vales of Kashmere
From Asia, from the north, from the God, the sage, and the hero,
From the south, from the flowery peninsulas and the spice islands,
Long having wander'd since, round the earth having wander'd,
Now I face home again, very pleas'd and joyous,
(But where is what I started for so long ago?
And why is it yet unfound?)

In EWRT 2 we had to define who we are by what we buy. This grouping is called a "cluster." Here is my cluster:

Been there, done that Cluster
My cluster consists of a bunch of schizophrenic post-consumer, post-adolescent, post-love and heartbreak, post-9to5, post-9/11, post-jail, post-travel, post-vegan, post-environmentalist, post-permaculturist vagrants.

We wear whatever we are given. 90% of the clothes I have were given to me. We do, however, still have ego, so we don't wear the big "I love Idaho" t-shirt our aunties gave us at christmas. We do buy essential materials for our passions--usually on sale. These include VC Shok basketball shoes, wetsuits, assorted braces for our deteriorating bodies, and Earl Boikins jerseys.

We read whatever is lying around and whatever we think will bring us closer to enlightenment. Currently, the words of John Wooden.

We are sick of listening to the retro-80s music of our youth. We are also getting sick of the music of the modern youth. Some of us have children so we can listen to songs by Barney, Veggie Tales, and Bob the Builder. We've learned who the true messiahs of music are by how they stay golden--Bob Marley, Jimi Hendrix, John Lennon, Tupac, Aimee Mann.

We cry at films like Magnolia, American Beauty, and Amelie. We don't know why.

A status symbol for us would be the hallow you see around the Buddha and Jesus.

Gandhi gives us a clue when he says, "You must be the change you wish to see in the world"
