Orientation for the course is Friday, April 10 from 6:00-7:00 PM in Room Forum 3. If you have not done the on-line orientation or wish to add, you must attend this session. If you have done the online orientation and wish to come for informational purposes you are welcome to attend.
DESCRIPTION ACCT 67/BUS 67 The Federal Income Tax with a California Emphasis (focusing on the Individual Tax Return) will be offered by yours truly via video and the web. The course will have two exams (open book, notes), homework from each chapter, some web research and discussion, and a final project where you will prepare an individual tax return. There will be a video component every week broadcast on Comcast Cable Community College Network (broadcast and webstreaming will begin the week of 4/7) and available through the media center (it can also be webstreamed on your computer). You will be responsible for watching the videos, doing the homework, getting on the web, and taking the tests twice during the term (on campus).
REQUIREMENTS
Be prepared to spend a minimum of 12 hours per week using and studying course materials.
1. Attend the Orientation on Friday, April 10, from 6:00-7:00 PM in Room Forum 3.(attend on campus as shown in the schedule of classes); OR complete the Online Orientation and submit the Student Information Form by 12 noon on Friday, April 10. (Online Orientation may be found at: http://distance.deanza.edu/). Pre-registered students who do not attend the Orientation Meeting or complete the online orientation by the deadline will be dropped to make room for students on the waitlist.
2. Subscribe to the class listserv (optional).
3. View the 15 half-hour video programs.
4. Complete all required reading assignments.
5. Turn in the required homework for the assigned sessions.
6. Take the two exams (open book, notes) online.
7. Turn in a final project where you will prepare an individual
tax return.
8. Attend the two review sessions (strongly recommended).
PLEASE NOTE THAT THE FIRST MIDTERM EXAM ON FRIDAY, May 8 (online) MUST BE TAKEN ON THE SCHEDULED DATE AND TIME, ONLINE - MORE INFORMATION ON THE FIRST EXAM DURING THE FIRST WEEK OF CLASS. THE FINAL, ON Monday, June 22 , (ONLINE) MUST BE TAKEN AT THE SCHEDULED TIME AND DATE AS WELL.
COURSE OBJECTIVE
This course is taught from a practical perspective and is ideal for:
An individual who wishes to understand tax at an introductory level
An individual who is interested in becoming an enrolled agent or CPA
An accounting major trying to get a leg up on competition at the upper division level
Any or all of the above
In order to take this course you will need to have access to the world wide web (that can be provided at DeAnza College) and be eligible to take ACCT 1A.
