SpeakBook Remark (not review)
In other words be sure not to tell me the story. I have read it. The question is, what do you see as relevant in relation to Women’s Studies and the Psychology of Women.
A couple of options are available:
One of the primary themes in the novel Speak, by Laurie Halse Anderson, is voice. Explain how voice is portrayed and how this theme relates to the idea of gender. Whose voice is it that speaks? When? How? Why? How does this relate you personally? Do you use your voice in the most effective way? Why or why not? Use theory from Crawford and Unger to back yourself up, even when explaining opinion. The web is also a good resource. Be sure to reference your theory using APA format.
Adolescence is a time of transition for most women. Why is this time more powerful than any other time and what are the social influences that affect women during this time specifically. How has the main character in Speak been influenced and how has she “let others down”? How have others influenced her transition from girlhood to womanhood. Does the book take you back to your adolescence? How? What themes resonant with you? Use formal theory in relation to the Psychology of Women (remember to apply theory, in others words). Please use APA format in referencing your theory.
