Music 15, Guitar Ensemble will be offered in spring quarter! Check back soon for Course Information sheet. This class will fulfill De Anza ensemble degree and transfer credit for music majors (both UC and CSU), and will give valuable experience in music reading and ensemble playing

Two units, 4 hours per week (Tuesday evening)
We'll play both guitar orchestra pieces and smaller ensemble music (duet, quartet, etc).
at least one public recital at the end of the quarter!
Classical guitars required (nylon string)
Less experienced players are welcome, but ability to read music, and at least rudimentary knowledge of classical guitar technique is essential--admission and placement by audition

Music 58A/B Beginning/Intermediate African and African-influenced Percussion and Rhythms Returns to the schedule for one quarter only each year. This quarter it is being taught by Ron, and we're studying West African hand and stick drumming styles.

West African styles are one drum per person, in an "orchestral" setting, as opposed to Western popular musical styles which often use drum "kit"
Learn about cultural elements of West African societies
learn to perform in a polyrhythmic fabric with other musicians
This class helps build rhythmic skills, as well as the ability to listen "in" (to one's own part) while also listening "out" (to the rest of the group)
No no musical experience necessary

Music 1C: Introduction to Music, World Music in America is offered Fall quarter only. Look for it in next year's fall schedule.

Music 14: Classical Guitar. The course titles for Beginning, Intermediate and Advanced Classical Guitar have changed to Classical Guitar I, II, III. Same content.

Classical Guitar I: We'll need guitars during the first week of class (day 2 for classes that meet twice a week). For those who don't own a classical, nylon string guitar, I've posted some information on renting or buying instruments here. Classical Guitar II/III: Be sure to enroll early for these classes to ensure that they aren't canceled because of low enrollment.
