Pool remodelThe De Anza pools were leaking thousands of gallons of water. The college even brought in a scuba diver to try to detect leaks.
Since the pool deck needed re-doing, it was time for some major work, which started in August of 2002. A few aquatics classes were moved to Foothill, the other college in our district.
Here are pictures of the work as it went along, starting with an old photo of the pool as it looked before the work started.
The cement trucks were lined up three deep in parking lot C to get the pool deck poured in March.
The diving well was finished first and it was filled with water starting on March 12.
The water looks green and murky in the photo below because the filter hadn't been running long.
Then the racing pool was finished and filled.
You might wonder why the diving well is being filled again in the pictures above.
We have a below deck level room next to the De Anza diving well with two windows that look into two sides of the diving well. Instructors can videotape swim strokes or take classes downstairs to watch a demonstration of treading water.
When the diving well was first filled with water the windows in the underwater room started leaking. They had to drain the diving well and get a guy in the lifeguard training canoe to make the repairs.
As of the week of March 26 the pools are operational and being used.
