When will the prerequisite swim tests for lifeguard training be given? The first day of lifeguard training class at De Anza College we spend so much time explaining the details
of the class, doing required paperwork and adding students
that we don't expect to have the time to get in the water.
The second day of class we will work first on any
needed improvements to people's strokes and surface dives, give
people a chance to practice
some of the tests before they formally try them and start on some water skills from Basic Water Rescue.
Along with some water rescue work, we will start the quarter with the first aid and CPR certifications until we have given people time to get ready for the swim pretests. (We have eleven weeks, not just two like many other certification programs, but there will be a specific deadline for completion of the prerequisite swim test(s))
(You can read a description of the tests and advice on how to pass them at Lifeguard Training FAQs.)
