Stevens Creek reservoir kayaking Nov. 2004Our beginning kayaking lesson at Stevens Creek reservoir usually follows the same pattern.
8 a.m. at Stevens Creek reservoir (photo by Deepak Chandani).
We unload the kayaks from the trailer and while the trailer is being parked and the permits purchased, we have a rock skipping contest.
We have a lesson at the ramp before launching.
We start with some basic practice, including trying to paddle backwards in a straight line, have some more paddling lesson (photo by Deepak Chandani),
then we are off to explore the reservoir.
We go as far as the water level allows
and try to form a line for a group photo.
On the way back, we have a race
Then if we have the time we try a second race, not of speed as much as of coordination, which sometimes causes a few boats to accidentally bump or even ram each other. The details are a secret (until you come to one of these lessons).
After the kayaking, everybody pitches in to help load and strap kayaks.
