first aid scenarios

You are responsible for being able to complete the following first aid scenarios without using your book.

1) A secondary assessment using SAMPLE and a head-to-toe exam for an adult (or a toe-to-head for a child).

This will start with (page 94-5) sizing up the scene, performing an initial assessment, summoning EMS personnel if needed and then the secondary assessment (pages 142-145 and Simple secondary survey study sheet).

2) A sobbing child approaches you when you are on surveillance duty. She tells you she was just stung by 4 or 5 bees and her left arm really hurts.

Don't forget, you will need to get consent from a parent/guardian. See page 147 for insect stings info.

3) You are on break in the concession area. A young woman approaches you saying her friend is behaving very strangely. You and the woman approach the friend who is sitting down. She is conscious. Immediately you notice a medical identification bracelet on her wrist.

Basic steps for sudden illness are on page 145.

4) While you are conducting patron surveillance, you notice that a young adult appears to be having a seizure in the water.

See page 146.

5) You are conducting patron surveillance. An older adult has been exercising in about shoulder deep water. As you continue to scan you see him suddenly stop what he is doing; he looks confused and seems to be having trouble with one side of his body.

See page 146.
