BiographyWork and Education History
I graduated from UC Santa Barbara with a Bachelor's degree (major in math, minor in art), went a fifth year to get a teaching credential, and then taught high school math for the next four years. I went back to school in computer science at Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) in New York and landed a job with Honeywell, Inc. as a programmer in a computer aided design (CAD) group in Massachusetts. After three years, I moved to California and worked for Hewlett-Packard in a customer support group and in a technical writing group. In 1987, I was hired by De Anza College to teach math part time, and, in 1991 I was hired by De Anza full time. I have a master's degree in applied math from Santa Clara University and co-authored a book, Collaborative Statistics, with Barbara Illowsky. One of my interests is exploring ways to use technology (computers and graphing calculators) in math to help students learn better. In addition to teaching classes on-campus, I often teach a Math 10 (statistics) Distance Learning course.
Fun Stuff
I enjoy my family, soccer games, reading, drawing and painting, skiing, hiking, camping, and traveling.
